I have read a few blogs over the past decades where the writer just seemed to disappear from the face of the earth. This, of course, was their decision and they don't owe the Internet anything more, but I am a nosy person by nature and I can't stand not knowing what happened! So, although I haven't been posting more than a few times a year anyway, I'm popping in to tell you I'm taking a blog break. I don't know when or if I'll be back, but rest assured I am just fine out here living my life in the physical world as much as possible.
It's flower and kayaking season again! I had a rough time with tulips this year and won't be growing them at scale again. The spring weather is just so unpredictable. It only took one sunny 80 degree day in the beginning of April to blow open over 200 tulips that I wasn't able to harvest in time. Between the potential for loss and the increased cost and tariffs, it's just not worth it. I will however plant some in my landscaping because they really are a spectacular flower.
At the beginning of May I spent a few days on the Gulf Coast (that's the Gulf of MEXICO despite what the signs now say.) The weather didn't cooperate, with tornado warnings every day, but that was completely fine because my friend and I were able to spend ample time inside reading, doing puzzles, and watching dumb TV. The sand was stark white against the green of the water and dark blue of the cloudy sky. Nature is amazing, isn't it?
Another reason for my diminished Internet presence is that I am now lucky enough to work mainly from home. With that freedom comes the downside of a lot of virtual meetings and screen time. After 8 hours of staring at email and Microsoft Teams, I am less inclined to spend even more time at the computer. If you still want to keep in touch, I've always been a letter writer and would love to correspond via mail. (Have you seen this horrifying story from Denmark?) Leave me a comment and we can exchange addresses.

I'm so glad you posted this because a) I HAVE been wondering about you and b) I also worry that something happens when a blogger drops off and I have no way to get in touch with them. That said, I am a card-exchanger (do you do holiday cards? if so let's get on each other's lists), and a postcard-writer. I haven't written a proper letter in ages but I could restart!

I love how blogs bring people together from all over the world and we can get to know each other on a deeper level than just posting photos on social media. DeleteScreen fatigue is so real, so stepping away from the computer after eight hours of Microsoft Teams is completely understandable. It is incredibly kind of you to give your readers a reassuring, proper sign-off instead of just going radio silent like so many others. It is heartbreaking that a sudden 80-degree day blew open 200 of your tulips, but keeping them strictly for your personal landscaping sounds like a much more peaceful way to enjoy them. Plus, trading typing for old-school letter writing is a beautiful shift, and your Gemini flower farm riddle is brilliant.
